Abstract
Christoph Riedweg first of all discusses the views held by the Emperor Julian, called the Apostate, who in his sharp criticism of Gen 2–3 takes up and further develops arguments of his Platonic precursors Celsus and Porphyry as well as Gnosticism. Riedweg compares Julian’s position to that of Cyril of Alexandria and also offers an in depth analysis of the Greek version of the Paradise story which is authoritative for both.
