Abstract

Among sulfur ylides, the most extensively studied class is that of sulfonium ylides. This is valid for the elaboration of methods for their generation as well as for their applications. The most frequently applied methods were summarized by Aggarwal and Richardson. In the recent decade, diverse aspects of sulfonium ylide chemistry were reviewed. The most extensively developed field of the applications of sulfonium ylides relates to asymmetric synthesis as they were shown to be efficient ligands and catalysts. Along with classical approaches for the generation of sulfonium ylides, a few modifications were also reported.
