Abstract

The present study investigated perspectives about future life among adolescents of different social and
geographical contexts in Brasilia (Brazil). The participants of the study were 48 adolescents studying at the
last term of high school in 4 different schools of Brasilia. The instrument developed for the study was a
three-point Lickert scale composed of 36 propositions divided according to 6 axes: feelings and conceptions
regard future life; transition to college/University; affective transactions; job, profession and career;
Brazilian contemporary scenery and economic perspectives; differences among school, college and
professional activities. For each proposition there was a line reserved for comments. Comparative analysis
of the perspectives of participants - considering the axes under investigation - showed similar concerns in
relation to college and to professional life. They also showed that, no matter the institutional context or
gender considered, participants had better perspectives about the continuation of their schooling than of
their transition to work and to a productive life.
