Abstract

This paper presents a teaching method for contemporary Chinese studies at the master level. It is based on a seminar taught by the first author at the Unit of Chinese studies in the University of Geneva since 2004, where social sciences theoretical frameworks have been applied experimentally to materials traditionally studied by humanities scholars. The text discusses in detail the procedures used in two kinds of courses: one seminar on methodology in Asian studies, and a research seminar.
