In the current debates on the artistic and cultural fluxes in art history Renaissance is thought more in respect of its external assimilations and transformations than as a Mediterranean phenomenon. I intend here to reflect on this idea, called Global Renaissance, through a specific Italian review of art historiography presented in Lionello Venturi's book "Il gusto dei primitivi", published in 1926.
