This paper analyses the language of Jacaccia and Ciumaca, two Romanescospeaking characters, playing in two different comedies: Li falsi mori by Giovan Battista Pianelli (1638) and I torti vendicati by Alessandro Benetti (1654). From a linguistic point of view, only the major texts of the 17th century have been the subject of in-depth studies, while plenty of aspects and an extensive production remain almost completely unexplored.
