Abstract: This essay puts into a contemporary theoretical framework the question of literary genres by analyzing two case studies: Rinaldo Corso’s commentary on Vittoria Colonna’s Rime (1542) and Francesco Algarotti’s dialogue Newtonianismo per le dame (1737). Written two centuries apart, both works were conceived in a politically subjugated Italy.
