Socrates Hesiodeus: modelli di pensiero esiodei nella filosofia politic e nell'etica di Platone

Abstract

Research in recent years has rightly emphasised the importance of the Hesiodic Erga for Plato’s «ethical agenda» (Van Noorden). Indeed, a closer look reveals astonishing parallels in the imagery and thought patterns concerning values, morality, right and wrong, long-term benefits of moral action, responsibility for the common good etc.: Both thinkers want to call upon their addressees – and beyond that, upon human beings in general – to reflect on their actions and to consistently orient their lives towards justice. Actually Hesiod is already in the first part of the Works and Days ultimately concerned with the guiding question of «How should man live?» that determines all Platonic-Socratic philosophising.
