Abstract

The photographs of the Swiss geologist Wolfgang Leupold (1895–1986) represent valuable ethnographic sources, thanks to their temporal and geographical coherence. Precisely through their private character, they are exceptional testimony to a Swiss-Indonesian entangled history in the early 20th century and, simultaneously, are documents of great photo-historical interest and high aesthetic value. Foto-foto yang diambil oleh ahli geologi Swiss Wolfgang Leupold (1895–1986) telah memotret sumber etnografis yang sangat berharga yang berkaitan dengan sejarah dan letak geografis setempat. Karakter gambar yang bersifat rekaman pribadi ini sangat tepat dijadikan sebagai bukti sejarah antara Swiss dan Indonesia pada awal abad ke-20an, juga sebagai dokumentasi foto-foto yang mengandung kepentingan sejarah yang menarik dan bernilai estetis tinggi.
