Abstract
The ‹Libellus de conflictu vitiorum atque virtutum›, written by Ambrosius Autpertus († 784), consists of the contrasting juxtaposition of vices and virtues which are introduced as interlocutors. This Carolingian treatise on basic ethical norms enjoyed a wide diffusion. At some point a compendium of 54 hexameters was composed in order to help memorize its teachings. This short poem, which is almost completely unknown today, circulated in numerous manuscripts and in a variety of forms; it is edited here from six manuscripts along with some notes.
