Abstract
Some Problems in the Chapter De morte in Gaudenzio Merula’s Memorabilia · The consolatory speech De morte in the first book of Gaudenzio Merula’s 1556 Memorabilium opus contains a considerable number of quotations, which seem to be largely derived from Raffaele Maffei’s Commentariorum libri (Rome, 1506). The formal composition and contents of the speech contain paradoxical elements. Upon initial examination, one can assume that Ortensio Lando is the author, but further studies as well as stylistic and contextual comparison with other works by Lando and Merula are necessary to corroborate this hypothesis.
