Abstract
Where are the eggs in Jana Harper’s project Egg Cartons (2015–2017)? Nowhere, because no eggs where none intended! In the summer of 2015, Harper worked on a number of projects with the help of a Southern Constellations Fellowship: New Walks in an Old Field. Inkjet prints, Photocopies, and Installation. The work Egg Cartons is also among them; it consists of forty egg cartons, which are inventoried, photocopied, and digitally processed. The engagement with objects has important implications for Jana Harper – above all with books, but also with toys or even with egg cartons. All material objects draw her attention. In her projects, she is always moving between material objects and their ontological structure. For it seems to me that these things acquire meaning not as objects but only through Harper’s allowing the structure of the objects – the ontological structure – to come into view.
