A Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) was presented with exophtalmos and a semi-solid mass dorsonasal to the left eye leading to vetrotemporal deviation of the globe. Ultrasonography of the eye revealed a well demarcated mass of cystic appearance, dorsonasal and retrobulbar of the left eye. Cultures of the mass (FNA) were negative for any bacteria and Mycoplasma spp. Metaplasia of a periorbital gland due to hypovitaminosis A was suspected and Vitamin A supplementation was initiated. Due to unresponsiveness to therapy, surgical removal of the cystic mass was performed. The histological diagnosis was adenoma. The surgical wound healed well and no recurrence was noted ten months later. To the authors knowledge this is the first report of surgical removal of a retrobulbar adenoma in this species with the eye remaining intact and functional.
