Abstract
In this entry, developmental trends in creative abilities and potentials are summarized through a snapshot of the main features of this development throughout the lifespan. Specifically, this entry addresses the development of creative potential through salient characteristics marking distinct key developmental stages, including pretend play in early childhood, the irregular development of divergent thinking during childhood, the specialization of creative interests and brain development from adolescence to early adulthood, the development of domain-relevant expertise in adulthood, and ultimately, a typical decline in creative performance but increased commitment into creative pursuits in elderly age.
