Conceptualizing pathological anger and other maladaptive emotional propensities within an individual differences framework: A comment on “anger: The unrecognized emotion in emotional disorders”

Hopwood, Christopher J; Krueger, Robert F (2016). Conceptualizing pathological anger and other maladaptive emotional propensities within an individual differences framework: A comment on “anger: The unrecognized emotion in emotional disorders”. Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice, 23(1):90-93.

Abstract

Cassiello‐Robbins and Barlow (2016) illustrate in the target article the importance of anger as a transdiagnostic factor in emotional disorders. We agree and extend the logic of their argument to psychopathology more broadly by fitting mental health problems into a more general individual differences framework. We illustrate how this helps solve the problems of comorbidity and heterogeneity in contemporary diagnosis.
