Abstract

In about 6 to 10 percent of all newborns with congenital heart defects (CHD), this malformation is due to an unbalanced chromosome aberration (Hoffman and Christianson 1978). Conversely, about 3 per cent of all newborns with autosomal chromosome aberrations have a CHD. These figures stress the importance of heart malformations in chromosome aberrations.
The purpose of this review is to present data on CHD in chromosome aberrations in general and to give an overview of present knowledge about CHD in particular chromosome aberrations.
