Abstract
This paper explores the linearization of syntactic structures in Vedic San-skrit. Recent research indicates that word order variation is influenced by cognitive factors, grammar, and language history, and ancient languages like Vedic Sanskrit provide valuable insights into these dynamics. Leveraging the recent availability of comprehensive linguistic resources, this study presents a corpus-based survey of Vedic word order variation in nominal expressions, examining noun-modifier pairs across different Vedic texts. The goals are to survey continuity in lineariza-tion and to compare the Atharvaveda to other Vedic texts using statistical tests of significance.
