Abstract
Il lavoro mette a fuoco il paradigma dell’aggettivo menünne ‘piccolo’ nel dialetto di Altamura, in provincia di Bari. Tale paradigma è isolato entro il sistema in quanto presenta tre allomorfi distinti per vocale tonica secondo un’alternanza ternaria che non ha confronto in nessun altro aggettivo qualificativo del dialetto. Si mostrerà che tale irregolarità si spiega come soluzione di compromesso fra due diversi suffissi, ciascuno con una propria alternanza metafonetica regolare. Il confronto coi dialetti vicini permette inoltre di inquadrare e spiegare alcune isolate innovazioni entro questo paradigma irregolare, riscontrate in singoli informatori e che rispetto a quanto osservato nella produzione e nei giudizi metalinguistici del pool dei nostri informatori altamurani, appaiono devianti.
The work focuses on the paradigm of the adjective menünne ‘small’ in the dialect of Altamura, in the province of Bari. This paradigm is isolated within the system in that it presents three allomorphs distinct as to the stressed vowel according to a ternary alternation that has no comparison in any other qualifying adjective in the dialect. We will show that this irregularity is explicable as a compromise solution between two different suffixes, each with its own regular metaphonetic alternation. The comparison with neighbouring dialects also allows us to frame and explain some isolated innovations within this irregular paradigm, found in individual informants and which, compared to what is observed in the production and metalinguistic judgements of the pool of our Altamurano informants, appear deviant.
