Abstract

Since the first ascent in 1786 by Jacques Balmat, Montblanc has fascinated poets and philosophers. For sixteen-year-old Arthur Schopenhauer, the change of weather on Montblanc becomes a symbol of the sudden change of mood from serenity to the melancholy of genius.
