Mit "Gewaltlosigkeit" wird gewöhnlich die Ikone der "nonviolence"-Bewegung assoziiert, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Die Ursprünge indischer Konzepte von Gewaltlosigkeit sind jedoch älter und nicht politischer Natur.
