Abstract
An approximately 10 year old child with unusually pronounced pathological alterations of the right tibia was discovered in the early medieval cemetery in Ins, Canton Bern, in 1987. The alterations are indicative of an unspecific and probably hematogenous osteomyelitis that was survived for a fairly long time. In addition to a differential diagnosis possible causes and individual consequences for the child are discussed in the framework of archaeological and modern cases of osteomyelitis in children.
