Abstract
„My theology is a simple muddle“, wrote Charles Darwin to a friend, about ten years after publishing On the Origin of Species. „I cannot look at the universe as the result of blind chance, yet I can see no evidence of beneficent design, or indeed of design of any kind, in the details.“ – Creation and evolution are not usually subjects of a philological paper. Yet the variety of discourse, the mode of reasoning about creation and the mode of reasoning about evolution, are appropriate subjects of philological considerations. It is proposed that the mode of reasoning is the key to understanding.
