Abstract: This article focuses on a number of medieval treatments of the literary figure of Cato in Lucan’s Pharsalia (or Bellum civile, c. 60-c. 65 AD), who was based on the Roman politician and military general Cato of Utica, Marcus Porcius Cato Uticencis.
