Abstract
Over the past 150 years the Naga hill tribes inhabitating the border region between India and Burma were hit by three violent shockwaves: British colonial rule, Christian missions and the Indian state. Each of these has left lasting marks on both the traditional way of life and the self-perception of the indigenous population. This book explores, from different perspectives, the transformations that happened to these unique traditions.
