This chapter analyses Japan’s Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP, ginō jisshū seido) as a transnational total institution. While some have denounced the TITP as a system that leads to working rights infringements and human rights abuses, others have described it as a well-functioning system that benefits employers and interns.
