This study has found unique breathing patterns in sign language by exploring: the di!erences in basic breathing parameters between sign language, tidal breathing (breathing at rest without language, cognitive, and motor demands), and speech breathing; the alignment of sign language breathing with syllable-level movements; and the presence of periodic volume changes in sign language breathing.
