Human FAN1 (FANCD2/FANCI-associated nuclease 1) is a structure-specific DNA repair nuclease involved in DNA interstrand-crosslink (ICL) processing, and multiple genome stability maintenance pathways. In recent years, FAN1 has gained particular attention due to genome-wide association studies linking it to Huntington’s disease (HD), an incurable neurodegenerative disorder caused by somatic expansion of CAG repeats in mutant huntingtin (mHTT).
