Folk horror kennt seit einigen Jahren in verschiedenen Medienformaten eine erneute Blüte. Auch wenn folk horror wegen seines Fokus auf Heidnisches und oftmals blutige Opfer sich eher an ein erwachsenes Publikum richtet, finden sich immer auch Bearbeitungen, die an Jugendliche adressiert sind. In dem Zusammenhang schlage ich eine Lesart von Michelle Pavers Roman Wakenhyrst (2019) als Versuch einer feministischen Weiterschreibung von folk horror vor.
