Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Provenance research serves to reconstruct object biographies. Specifically, it seeks to identify collections acquired in unjust contexts. It employs methods from different disciplines like history, anthropology, conservation/restoration, and art history to trace the biographies of objects, reveal their complex and often ambiguous histories, and lay the foundation for solutions in the future, including restitution.
